Holly J. Margaret
Hi Holly, thank you for joining us today and
Congratulations on your first story!!
I was born and raised in a small town on the east end of Long Island.
Tell us a little about yourself.
There are a million little things that when put together, make me the person I am today. I am a girly girl but with a little bit of tomboy still left in me. I enjoy dressing up to see a Broadway show or nice dinner as much as I love throwing on a pair of shorts with a tank top and flip-flops for the beach or to go root for my favorite baseball team. I am a teacher who works with English as a Second Language students and love every second I have with them. I can't help but smile at all of the accomplishments they are making this year. After school I tutor, teach a religion class, and work on perfecting my writing. Family and friends will often say I put others before myself. They will also mention that I have a caring and sensitive nature and strive to see the positive in every situation. I’ve learned to appreciate the little moments in life like the feeling of sand and water between my toes and the sight of fireworks being set off over the castle at Walt Disney World.
What genres do you write?
I enjoy writing sweet romance stories. I have also written a series of children’s books on different educational topics.
Why did you choose these genres?
I began writing children’s books when I couldn’t find what I was looking for to fit in with lesson plans I was creating. The romance books came in later since I am a true romantic at heart.
Where do you do most of your writing?
I do most of my writing at the computer in my bedroom. I usually write first thing in the morning before my hectic schedule begins.
Is there any special indulgence you allow yourself while you are writing?
I try to stay away from sweets and other special indulgences, however, what I really crave when writing is a nice quiet room free of distractions.
What are some of your favorite books?
I read just about everything but some of my favorites are, “The Hunger Games,” and, “Twilight.”
What inspired you to write your first book?
I was inspired by my student’s to write a series of children’s books. After watching them struggle with understanding a concept I searched endlessly for a book that could get the message across to them. However, I came up empty handed and decided to write my own. My first published book,, “Mateo’s Tale,” was inspired by my love of fairy tales and all things Disney.
What do you find most challenging about writing?
I think the most challenging part of writing is editing. I love to write and move past that part of the story. Having to reread what I wrote looking for errors is often challenging, especially when I have a drive to just keep writing.
Can you share some of the projects you are currently working on?
I am currently working on a military love story with just a hint of paranormal.
Where can we learn more about you?
